PLANNING FOR TAXES (AND TAX UPDATE) AND BEST PRACTICES TO AVOID 401(k) CATASTROPHES (aka Lawsuits)

Our October meeting will feature a joint seminar featuring our annual tax update presented by The Mercadien Group, and a discussion on best practices to avoid 401(k) catastrophes presented by CPI Companies.  A highlight of these topics is as follows:

Planning for Taxes
This seminar, presented by Richard S. Willinger, CPA, MST from The Mercadien Group will provide a practical approach on how to plan for income taxes, with particular emphasis on common book to tax adjustments that you can identify and what your shareholders need to understand about them including the carryover impact on book and tax of historical tax adjustments such as bonus and Section 179 depreciation/deductions. Hot topics will also be reviewed.

Best Practices to Avoid 401k Catastrophes
Over the past several years, a new specialty practice for lawyers has cropped up...helping employees sue employers over their 401k. In May 2015, the Supreme Court made it easier for employees to sue, and for the attorneys to get paid. The session, presented by Gary DeVicci, MSFS, CFP, of CPI Companies, will explain key areas of liability exposure and provide a simple process to significantly reduce the potential for losses (and, possibly make a lot of money doing so). Time permitting, Gary will also provide his insight on common mistakes made with business insurance and what you can do about it.

This event will provide 2.0 CPE credits in the field of tax and specialized knowledge and applications for CPA's licensed in NJ and PA.  This is a group - live course at the basic level.  No prerequisites or advanced preparation is required.
